How To Draw Giraffe

Ensure you have the following supplies ready:

Pencils: A variety of graphite pencils for sketching and shading.

Erasers: Regular erasers for precision.

Paper: High-quality paper or a sketchbook.

Reference images: Gather images of the character

Step 1 –  Draw The Giraffe’s Eye

 Giraffe Drawing Step 1

Begin by drawing an oval shape in the middle of your paper, towards the top. This will be the giraffe’s eye. Inside the oval, draw a smaller circle in the top right and an even smaller circle in the bottom left. Color the big circle, but leave the two smaller circles white.

Step 2 – Draw The Giraffe’s Head

Next, draw a U-shape right next to the eye. Start by coming down and then back up. This will be the giraffe’s head.

Step 3 – Add Hair And Horns

 Giraffe Drawing Step 3

To create some hair on the giraffe’s forehead, draw little zigzags. You can draw a combination of small and large zigzags. Then, draw two lines coming out of the top of the head, right next to each other. Connect them with a sideways C-shape. Repeat this step to draw another set of horns.

Step 4 – Draw The Giraffe’s Ear And Nostril

 Giraffe Drawing Step 4

Draw a curved line coming out diagonally from the head. You can make the ear a bit bigger if you like. Then, curve the line back down. Draw the inside of the ear with another curved line. Then, draw a small nostril at the bottom of the head.

Step 5 – Draw The Giraffe’s Neck And Belly

 Giraffe Drawing Step 5

Giraffes have long necks, so starting next to the ear, draw a long curved line to represent the neck. Imagine the neckline of the giraffe coming down and curving behind the leg. Then, draw a curved line that comes out the other side and curves up to create the belly.

Step 6 – Drawing The Front Leg

Next, draw the front legs by starting inside the body and drawing a line down. Connect it at the bottom with a curved line. Repeat this step to draw the other front leg.

Step 7 – Complete The Back Legs

 Giraffe Drawing Step 7

Draw a line that curves down for the back leg, making it shorter than the front leg. Then, draw a diagonal line that comes down to about the same length as the first line. Connect it to the first leg to complete the back leg. Repeat this step on the other side to draw the second back leg.

Step 8 – Outline The Giraffe’s Tail

 Giraffe Drawing Step 8

Extend a long, curved line from the back of the body to represent the tail. Add a few tufts of hair at the end of the tail to give it a realistic look.

Step 9 – Let’s Color!

Now it’s time to bring your giraffe to life with colors! Giraffes have a light tan or yellowish coat with brown spots. Use colored pencils or markers to fill in the body and spots. Add shading to create depth and dimension.
