Step 1 – Drawing eyes

Let’s begin today’s lesson at the top of our page. Draw two large circles for the eyes. We start with the one on the left, starting from the very top of our circle. Bring that all the way down towards the bottom. Go all the way back up towards the top.

We leave a small Gap in between the eyes and draw the same size circle on the right. So, start by lining up the top all the way down towards the bottom and back up towards the top. From here, we are going to pull the pupils towards the inside of the eye. From the inside of the left eye, draw a smaller circle all the way around. Then, pull that back in. Just line this up on the right, going all the way around and then back in.

Let’s add a small highlight on the top left side of each pupil. So, up against the edge of the pupil, draw a small circle coming in and then back out line that up on the right. We are going to fill the bottom of the pupils in black. 

Step 2 – Drawing mouth

Let’s move down, draw the top edge of the mouth and start all the way over on the left side. Bend this down in the middle cross, then back up. 

Let’s go back over towards the left side. Draw the bottom of the mouth and come

down round this out. Pull that up towards the right side. Let’s add the top row of teeth from the top left corner and step down. We are going to follow that curve going across towards the right to right about there. It will add a fan going down, angle back up towards the right without a small thing on the bottom right corner, going up and then down. We are going to draw the edge of the tongue, starting on the left. Finish up and then down now go back and fill the inside of the mouth in black.

Step 3 – Drawing eyebrows and nose

Now, in between the eyes and the mouth, we are going to add the nostrils we need. 

A small gap in the center. Start with two angled lines coming down towards the

side. Flatten off the bottom of the short line coming in. Pull it back up towards the top of the nostrils. We will fill those in black. Now, let’s place the eyebrows on top of the eyes and start on the left. Curve up and then down on the inside. Line this up on the right corner up and then back down. On the inside, we have got two straight lines going up. Then on the outside, we will do the same thing.

Let’s close off the top of the eyebrows. That is the same curve and it will fill the eyebrows in black. Now, we have drawn his face. 

Step 4 – Drawing face and hair

Let’s move down and draw the bottom edge of the head. We start from the left side of the mouth. Let’s step out, curl this down. Go underneath the mouth, go across, and then up towards the right. Now, let’s work our way up along the side of the head, starting from the left side. Round out the jaw, go up and then bend that in. We are going to place the hair on top of the head. Let’s start from the inside left eyebrow. Start with a curve, going up around the eyebrow, and then pull that down towards the right. 

A point coming up. Go out and all the way down towards the side of the head. Let’s go back and add a point and go up and across towards the right to overlap the hair going across on the side of the head. Then, bend that down. Let’s add a point going up and in. Another point going out down and again, just going up. We will bend that in. Let’s add the hairline on the left side. Start from the hair and it is out and then down. Go up towards your eyebrow, just like we did on the right side and then out and then down.

Let’s go back and finish off the top of the hair. We want to go up towards the top of the head around this out and then down. Let’s round out the bottom, going out to the side and add three points along that gap. Start with one going up and in down. We want to curve in the opposite direction, going out towards the side. Then back in. Let’s close off that gap with one more. We are out and then in.

Step 5 – Drawing ears

From there, we are going to place the ears on the side of the head. Start on the top left and bend the air going up and out. Let’s line this up on the right. Let’s go back to the left side, bend the ear coming in and then down and around at the bottom of the ear. Come down and then bend that up towards the side of the head. Let’s add a fold inside the ear, starting from the top coming in and then out, down and in toward the side of the head. Now, we complete the head.

Step 6 – Drawing body

Let’s move down and draw on the body. We will start with that thick color, starting over on the left side. Come down the middle, cross and then up. Let’s curve the side of the body on the left. We will step down and put it out and down toward the hip. Line this up on the right and do the same thing.

Now, you want to overlap the belt on top of the body. Step out, draw a straight line coming in on both sides. From the inside, come down towards the bottom. The angle is down and then out towards the side. Let’s connect the top and bottom with a straight line. Now, we are going to add one more line in the center.

Let’s add a circle in the center of the belt. Now, we are going to add a trim on the side of the body underneath the collar. Bend that out and then down on top of the

belt. 

Step 8 – Drawing legs

We are going to continue working down towards the feet from the bottom of that circle. Let’s step down and draw a straight line going across. We are going to leave a small gap in the center. Go to the left side, bend the leg, point out, and then down towards the left heel and over towards the right. Go out and down towards the right heel. Let’s round out the bottom of the feet, starting from the left heel, and bend the foot coming down and then up. We are going to go back over towards the left side. We are going to draw the top of the foot. We are going to go up and we want to bend this down, aiming towards the heel. We will stop right about there and then, from this line, hang this down and then out. From there, we want to follow that same curve. Go up and then out towards the top of the foot. 

Let’s add a toe cap on the outside of the foot. It is in and down. It will follow the curve of the foot, coming back in towards the heel. Let’s go back to the top of the foot, angles up and out. Go up and then down on the inside, down and out on top of that strap. On that same point, we are just going to round out the bottom and then up towards the inside of the leg. Then line up the side of the body underneath the belt, and the angle leg comes down and out on top of the shoes. Let’s add a trim across the legs, down and up on both sides.

Step 9 – Drawing hands

Now, let’s go back and draw on the arms. We start halfway between the bottom of the collar and the belt. We are going out and then down towards the wrist. From the wrist, draw a small half circle from the thumb. Close off the end with a bracket. 

Let’s add three fingers on either side and start from the bottom curve of the thumb. Come down and bend this up around that bracket. Step down and add the second finger. Go out and then up. And then the third finger on the side. We go all the way around and just pull this towards the outside of the cuff. Same thing on the right start with that first finger, second finger, and third coming in towards the cup. Let’s add the cuff on the outside of the hand. Go up with a straight line, and then we will bed this in and then down from the outside of the cuff. Step in curly with your arm coming up. Then, under the collar, you want to connect the outside of the wrist to the inside with another curve cross on both sides. From the inside, draw a straight angle line coming down. It will follow that curve going up and out towards the outside of the hand.

Let’s switch to a thick black marker and fill the collar arms and the legs and start from the top left.
