How to Draw Santa Claus’s Head

Step 1 – Drawing nose

First, draw an oval for the nose. We are going to start at the very top. And, the middle comes all the way around the left side, and then down towards the bottom. Then, it bends that back up towards the top.

Now, we are going to draw two small circles for the eyes. Take the nose as a center point. Let’s start with the one on the left. Come all the way around and back up. Now, line that up over on the right side. Draw the same size circle. Let’s add a small circle along the top of each eye for a highlight and we will fill the bottom of the eyes in black.

Step 3 – Drawing eyebrows

Let’s give our character some thick eyebrows. We start on top of the left eye. Next, we step over towards the side. Bend this up and then do the same thing going out and then bending that down now. We want to round out the ends of the eyebrow. So, curl that around and then up towards the top on the inside. Go in the opposite direction. Let’s close off the top of the eyebrow with another curve going across.

Step 4 – Drawing mustaches

Underneath the nose, draw two curved lines that begin close together and then extend outward. This forms the overall outline of the mustache. To give the mustache volume and a fluffy look, draw some smaller, curved lines within the larger outline. These lines can be wavy or looped, resembling fluffy clouds.

Now, you should add a smile to our kind Santa Claus. Draw a curve under his mustache. Draw another curve above that curve to illustrate his tongue. You should shade the mouth area later to separate his tongue. Add another small curve of a smile shape, to give our Santa Claus a chin.

Now, let’s draw his big and fully beard. Decide on the beard’s length and shape. It can be a rounded, full beard or a longer, more flowing one. Draw the lower outline of the beard accordingly. You should make sure it is symmetrical.

Similar to the mustache, use curved lines to create texture and fullness. Vary the size and direction of these lines. The beard should complement the shape of Santa’s face. A rounder face might suit a fuller beard, while a longer face might look better with a more streamlined beard.

Then, we will add that thick trim around the base of the hat. We are going to start from the side, go out, and then go in like a large bracket. Let’s close off the top with another curve and go up in the middle. We are going to flip the hat over towards the right side. So, let’s start on the left side, the hat brim. Go up and round out the top. Then, go across towards the right. We are just going to bend that down. Now, add that large circle on the end of the hat. Start from there and come all the way around. Go up the right side and then back in towards the top. Now, from the top of the circle, we are going to step. Then, curve that up and then down towards the right side of the head.
