Paper: High-quality paper or a sketchbook.
Reference images: Gather images of the character.

Step 1 – Drawing face

Squirrel Drawing Step 1

We are going to start by drawing the top of its head. We need to draw a

soft little curve. This is directly on the top. Now, we are going to bring the curve down and start to drawthat dumpling shape. So, it is going to get wider as we come down  for the cheek area. Then, we are just going to go ahead and connect it at the bottom. So, squash it a little bit more at the bottom and connect it.

Step 2 – Drawing ears

Squirrel Drawing Step 2

Then, from there, let’s just come up. Draw the little ears for the squirrel. Next, draw a curve up and soften the point. Bring it down. Then, we are just going to do the same thing on the other side. Put the same thing, a soft point, at the top, and then bring it down. Together, two little ears in now.

Step 3 – Drawing nose

Squirrel Drawing Step 3

Let’s bring it to life. So, towards the bottom, there in the center, we are going to draw his little nose. We are going to draw a curve. And from there, we are going to brown it off. We are going to go ahead and just shade that part. We give a little highlight at the top and then shade the rest in.  Then, from there, we can come down and just give it a straight line, just a very small line. Then, bring up a curve. And, put the same thing on the other side. Then you cap it off.

Step 4 – Drawing eyes

Squirrel Drawing Step 4

Now, let’s draw the eyes. We are just going to come right across and draw the eyes. So, it is going to be a nice circle towards the edge. Draw the same thing on the other side, towards the edge, once again.

Next, draw a big-size circle. Now, draw two small circles inside for highlights and a curved line at the bottom and shade in the top. Add the same thing on that side. Two small circles inside for highlights, a curved line at the bottom and shading at the top.  Finally, there is a huge eye and lines at the bottom. Then, let’s come up over the eye and just draw a small curve to anchor the eyes on both sides.

Step 5 – Drawing whiskers

Squirrel Drawing Step 5

Then, let’s come to the bottom. We are just going to add two little whiskers on each side of this squirrel’ cheek.

Step 6 – Drawing upper body

Squirrel Drawing Step 6

Now, let’s draw this cute little body. We are going to come to the sides and center the head. We are going to draw two little lines to center the head. From there, we are just going to bring this down a little bit more for the body. Then, we are going to start to draw his hands. The hand is coming towards the center but we will not touch the center. Give it a little gap and put the same thing on the other side. Just two little hands like that. By leaving a little gap, you can put whatever you want in there. So, your squirrel can hold something. From there, we are going to bring down a curve for the arms and up.

Step 7 – Drawing lower body

Squirrel Drawing Step 7

From there, let’s bring this down a little bit more. The body on both sides and then let’s bring out a little curve that comes out for the legs on both sides.  Now, let’s come in and we are going to draw the tummy area. We are going to indicate some fur by drawing some curved zigzags. Bring it around. Add the same thing on the other side.

Step 8 – Drawing legs

Squirrel Drawing Step 8

From there, we are going to come to the bottom. Then, just draw a curve for the feet  to make it simple and connected. You can add a little curve to the toes. Draw the same thing on the other side and connect it. Then, at the bottom, connect it with a soft curve.

Step 9 – Drawing tail

Squirrel Drawing Step 9

Now, come to the most “squirrel” part! Let’s draw the tail. We aregoing to draw a huge curve that goes out. So, we are just going to bring out that nice fluffy tail all the way around. Then, from there, we are going to come in with a curve. And drag that line all the way back. We are going to give it one big sweep and bring it back. Then, come in and just connect that part.

Step 10 – Let’s color!

Squirrel Drawing Step 10

Now, you have a nice fluffy tail for the squirrel. Then, if you want it, you could put a little seed that the squirrel is holding. So, we are just going to add a little curve or nut, whatever you like. Put some lines inside to give it some depth.  Also, give it a little heart. Because he is outside, let’s draw some grass and some dandelions.
