How to Draw a French Bulldog

Step 1 – Drawing the nose

French Bulldog Drawing Step 1

Let’s get started in the center of our page with the nose. Start by drawing a curve from left to right. Go up and then down. Now, we want to connect these two points with a half circle starting on the left, which will curve down to the bottom and pull that up on the right side. On the left side, we want to draw a small oval for the highlight, starting from the top.

Then, we are going to fill in the nose in black. Next, we are going to surround the nose with the muzzle so that it is up above the center of the nose. We start with a point, curve around it, and then pull that up towards the center.  Let’s start on the center point. Go out towards the left. We are going to pull that down and come directly up in the center.  Next, we go back to the top and draw on the right side. We are going to curve out towards the right. Draw down towards the same height as we have on the left.  And we will pull that up in the middle.

Step 2 – Drawing the eyes

Now, on the sides of the muzzle, we are going to draw two circles for the eyes. Let’s start on the left side at the very top of the eye. Draw that circle. We are just going to come right in towards the side of the muzzle and back up towards the top. We will do the same thing on the right side. Let’s line up the top. Come around in towards the muzzle and back up towards the top. Now, directly below the eyes, we want to draw a little wrinkle. So, on the left side, we are just going to curve around and up.

Now, in the center of the eye, we draw a smaller circle for the pupil. So, let’s start on the left side. We step down. Just leave an even space all the way around.  We will do the same thing on the right side. Now, at the top left, we need to draw an even smaller circle for a highlight just up against the edge of the object. Then, we are going to go in and fill the pupil with black.

Step 3 – Drawing the head

Now, in between the inside edge of the muzzle, we are going to draw a curve for the left side. Curve down and then back up for the lower chin. Now, we have drawn on the face. Let’s go ahead and draw on the rest of the head. So, in this center, we are going to go all the way to the top. Draw on a point. From that point, we want to curve out towards the left around the eye. Then pull that in towards the side of the muzzle. Now, we are going to go back to the top and draw on the right side starting by curving across around the eye. Now, we are going to pull that right in towards the side of the muzzle.

Step 4 – Drawing the ears

Now, let’s go up to the top and draw on the long ears from the center. We are going to step out on the left side. We need to curve up and then out towards the left. We will go to the right side. Curve up and then out towards the right to the same height.

Now, for the left side, we want to round out the tip. Curve around and then in towards the side of the head. Round this out now. We are going to curve down and out towards the left. As we get closer to the head, we are just going to curve it back in. Then, do the same thing on the right. Round it out. Curve down and out towards the right. Now, near the bottom, we are just going to hook it in towards the side of the head. Let’s add in some inner ear detail.  We are just going to fold this curve on the inside. So, you are going to step in.

Follow it all the way to the top now. We will round it out and come down towards the side of the head. Let’s do the same thing on the right. Step in, curve to the top and round this out. Come down the right side and then in towards the head. Now, we just want to add a stripe in the center of the head. So, we start directly below the inside edge of the ear. Curve down and then we will pull that out. Just beside the eye, we will do the same thing on the right side, coming in and then back out directly above the muzzle. We are just going to add a little wrinkle starting from the left. We are just going to curve up in the middle and then back down. Then, above the eyes, we are  going to add some eyebrows. Add on the left part first. We are just going to curve it up and then in and then down on the right side.

Step 5 – Drawing the body

Now, we have got the head. Let’s work our way down the body. We are going to start with the outer edge of the arms first, right beside the muzzle underneath the cheek. Curve out and then pull it back and do the same thing on the right. Come out and then pull it back into the same height. Now, we are to draw a C shape, coming all the way around. Then on the right, we will go in the opposite direction.

Now, we want to overlap the center toe. So, from this point, step up and draw almost like a half circle. Go around and do the same thing on the right side. Now for the third toe, we are going to flip that C over in the opposite direction. So, step down, come around and then in. Now, let’s draw on the inside edge of the arm from the top of this line. We are going to step in, curve up, and then in with a short curve. And then, about halfway down, we are going to draw a curve from left to right, coming down from the belly and then back up.

Now you can see the tip of the paws in the back. So, on the left side, we are going to draw a C shape. We step over and draw that one more time, just tucking that back in do the same thing on the right.  Now, we are going to see a little bit of the tail. Poke out on the left side. Start on the arm to curve up and out. Now, we are going to taper that back in behind the arm.

Step 6 – Drawing the markings
